From October 30th to November 1st, The 13th National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship hosted by the Ministry of Education was held at Chongqing University. A total of 875 projects were recommended by 300 universities. After preliminary evaluation by experts in related disciplines, 460 projects were selected to participate in this year's National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The undergraduate science and innovation team iGEM HUST-China's "Degumming of Banana stalk based on Engineering yeast" project was successfully shortlisted for the exhibition and communication section, and won "My Favorite Project" and "Best Idea Project" at this annual meeting, and won the "Outstanding Instructor" award.
The project of "Degumming of Banana stalk based on Engineering yeast" was completed by the iGEM HUST-China undergraduate science and technology competition team of our school under the guidance of many teachers such as Zhanyi, Xie Shangxian, Ning Kang, and Yan Yunjun. It won the gold medal in the 2019 iGEM International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition. This time participated in the National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the 2018 undergraduates Wang Bohan, Fan Changxin, Shi Jiacheng, Huo Xiunan, Liang Yuanhao, Zhang Dongfang optimized the project display videos and posters again, and actively participated in the online experience exchanging. Our students' scientific research creativity, beautifully produced project videos, and academic posters have won unanimous praise from many teachers and students participating in the conference, and have also been recognized by expert review, and finally won 3 prizes.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship is an important annual college student innovation and entrepreneurship exhibition and exchange activity carried out by the Ministry of Education based on the national college student innovation and entrepreneurship training program. It is one of the most extensive, influential, and most highly-engaged events among colleges and universities across the country. The College of Life Science and Technology has long attached importance to the cultivation of students' innovative and entrepreneurial ability, mobilized teachers and students to create together, and actively participated in technological innovation. In the past three years, under the guidance of the Office of Academic Affairs, the school has 11 projects selected into the National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, 5 of which are from the College of Life Science and Technology, and 9 honors have been won. Since signing up for the conference, the college has organized project pre-defenses for many times, and guided the optimization of project video production, academic posters, and defense speeches, ensuring good project presentation effects and results.
