Today marks the fourth day of our study tour in France. After the bustling activities of the previous day, including a lively welcome party, we enjoyed a brief breakfast in the morning and took a rest back in hotel rooms, gearing up for the orienteering competition and pond microorganism sampling in Fontainebleau Forest in the afternoon.
Around 12:30 PM, we arrived at our destination—Fontainebleau Forest. Before the orienteering began, we savored a delightful picnic under the warm, bright sunshine amidst the lush greenery.
At 2 PM, the teachers briefed us on the precautions and distributed supplies to each group, and we were so eager to start the orienteering race. The forest is incredibly enchanting, with its vast expanse of trees, towering ancient trees, serene lakes, and stratified rocks. Each group used a map and a compass to locate checkpoints and answer related questions. This experience was not only a test of our teamwork and basic navigation skills but also a thrilling outdoor adventure.
During the orienteering, we conducted microorganism sampling in the designated area by the pond. This small pond harbored a diverse range of tiny creatures, both visible and invisible to the naked eye. These microorganisms are the samples we will use for our scientific research experiments in the coming days.
After a day of outdoor learning activities, we gained a deeper appreciation of the practical aspects of life sciences from nature’s perspective. We realized that learning theories is essential, but hands-on exploration of nature and the world is equally important. This trip to Fontainebleau Forest broadened our horizons, strengthened our teamwork, and boosted our expectations and confidence about the upcoming part of our study tour in France.
