(Reporters: Mingle Cai, Yifan Wang) A special issue of “Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine” co-edited by Professors Shengmin Zhang and Antonios G. Mikos has been published and accessible in the Wiley journal “Advanced Healthcare Materials” since December 2020. This special issue has demonstrated the most recent advances in bone, cartilage, muscle, cardiac muscle, and skin tissue engineering, covering the topics of 3D bioprinting, additive manufacturing, multi-material and -scale tissue-engineered construct, and more precise mimic for biochemical and physical microenvironment in the native tissue. These topics and versatile strategies for tissue and organ regeneration have presented pioneering tools and paradigms for clinical therapies.

This special issue includes up-to-date researches on 3D printing of bioinspired biomaterials, engineered multi-cellular spheroids, biofunctional elements incorporated coatings with enhanced osteogenic and antibacterial effects, stimuli-responsive skeletal muscle tissue engineering constructs, silk-based biomaterials for cardiac tissue engineering, additive manufacturing of bone scaffolds, bone hematoma-regulating osteogenic biomaterials, integrin-targeting biomaterials, innovative tissue-engineered strategies for osteochondral defect repair, 3D printed scaffold delivering proangiogenic factors, viscosity modulating osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells, skin repair with angiogenic and follicle regeneration induced by broad antibacterial agents, stem cell differential inducers-releasing biphasic scaffold, and patient-specific bone particle bioprinting for bone tissue engineering.

The special issue “Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine” will provide significant reference and guideline for scholars and doctors that work in inter-disciplinary areas of biomaterials, stem cells, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine.
