简介Introduction:
Dr. Aaron Fenster is the Director of the Imaging Research Laboratories of the Robarts Research Institute, Chair of the Division of Imaging Sciences of the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine, founder and Co-director of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering, director of the Cardiovascular CIHR Transdisciplinary Training Program, and the Director of the Imaging Pipeline Platform of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research. His team generated 230 publications, 27 issued patents and an additional 7 pending, and has licensed technology from his lab to 11 different companies. He spun-off two companies from his lab based on innovations generated by his research team. He has received numerous awards including a Canada Research Chair - Tier 1, the First Ontario’s Premier Discovery Award for Innovation Leadership (2007), the University of Western Ontario Hellmuth Award in 2008 (the University’s highest award for research excellence) and the Canadian Organization of Medical Physics Gold medal in 2010 (the organization highest award). His group developed world’s firsts in 3-dimensional ultrasound prostate imaging, prostate cryotherapy, and carotid plaque imaging and analysis, and is applying these innovations to oncological, cardiovascular and pre-clinical applications.
Dr. Aaron Fenster’s research spans two broad research programs: Vascular Imaging and Image Guidance in Oncology. His is committed to expediting the discovery, development and translation of advanced technological innovations that will transform the manner in which disease is diagnosed and treated. Specifically, his innovations include the development of 3D ultrasound imaging, which is used for prostate cancer diagnosis, minimally invasive therapy, and image guided biopsy; 3D ultrasound guided breast biopsy, which is used to increase the accuracy of guiding the biopsy needle to the suspicious target; and 3D carotid ultrasound imaging, which is used to identify and monitor vulnerable carotid plaque that may lead to stroke.
